A Neapolitan by birth, Gino D’Acampo was inspired to express his natural passion for cooking by his nonno, a respected head chef, and he entered the Luigi de Medici Catering College at the early age of fifteen. He continued to develop his skills through the kitchens of restaurants in Europe - this even included a spell as Head Chef at Sylvester Stallone’s ‘Mambo King’ in Marbella (he was 19) - before coming to England the following year.
Initially asked to appear on Good Food Live to demonstrate his particular expertise and skill in using olive oil, Gino quickly went on to become one of the country’s most popular TV chefs through his many appearances on cookery programmes - including Ready, Steady, Cook and Saturday Kitchen. In 2009, he scored a spectacular success, winning the title King Of The Jungleon ITV's hit series, I'm A Celebrity - Get Me Out Of Here!. Viewers took him to their hearts, voting him the series winner by a record-breaking margin. He has gone on to make many further guest appearances, becoming a regular on ITV’s award-winning flagship programme, This Morning, and hosting two ITV series, There’s No Taste Like Home and Let’s Do Lunch ... with Gino and Mel; the latterproved so popular that it ran for five series. Capturing the flavours of his homeland, Gino’s Italian Escape was first produced by ITV in 2013, returning every year since then for hugely successful runs, each accompanied by a best-selling book. Alongside this, Gino has found time to keep in touch with his mischievous side by appearing on ITV2’s hit show, Celebrity Juice, everybody’s guilty pleasure.
Gino is also the author of several highly popular cookbooks, including Fantastico!, Gino’s Pasta and Italian Home Baking. Gino’s Italian Escape, published in 2013 to accompany the TV series, was a major success and April 2015 saw the release of Veg Italia! . His latest book, Gino’s Healthy Italian For Less, was published in May 2017, bringing a calorie-conscious and nutritionally-balanced take to both Italian classics and some great new recipes.
Gino is also a rapidly expanding restaurateur: My Pasta Bar, for the fast-casual diner, can be found at three locations in Central London while full-service restaurants - Gino D’Acampo - My Restaurant - are currently bringing typically fantastico Italian food to diners in Manchester, Leeds, Harrogate, Liverpool and at London’s Euston Station, with Hull, Sheffield, Camden Town and Birmingham waiting in the wings.
